Has Someone You Love Had a Drastic, Unhealthy Personality Change?

July 29, 2018

Readers here may recall the estrangement story of Carey and Aurora that was posted several months ago.  Carey’s mom had requested to have the posts taken down.  She thought that there might be a chance at reconciliation.  So far, that has not happened.

It has been almost 8 months since that devastating estrangement from her son and daughter-in-law began.  That mom has gone through all the stages of grief.  Three months of crying almost every day and night.  Then, her grief was lifted when she showed up at their church and they rudely walked out of the church during the closing prayer time to avoid speaking with her.  Since then, she has been reading and  investigating what might have caused her son to have a 180 degree personality change that led him to completely abandon his family.

The son has also abandoned many of his friends (with whom he perceived as “siding with” his parents and sister).  Two of his three employees quit their jobs.  One said, “the last three months were not the same.”  That employee had spoken to Carey’s mom many months ago when she returned some items to her son’s office.  She purposely went there on a day when Carey usually isn’t working.  That employee admitted that Carey “wasn’t the same” and “was acting strangely.”  A few months later, Carey’s third employee also quit.

What is really sad is that Carey’s best man has also been rejected by him!  There is something really strange about all of this that probably goes beyond the original complaints given against the parents such as “unhealthy communication” and “crossing boundaries.”

Carey’s mom has suspected that there is cultish behavior behind it all.  However, Aurora and her parents consider themselves “devout Christians” (and appeared that way at first) so what kind of cult-like family members would encourage a newly married son-in-law to abandon his family, friends, and even his co-workers?

Cults are not always “so way out there.”   They can be very subtle; even non-recognizable as a cult at first.

However, they usually have one or more of the actions listed in the graphic below.

I recently recorded a People Magazine/ Investigation Discovery series on cults. [Note: Readers who are interested can view them at that link.]

So far, I have only had the opportunity to watch 2 of the episodes: Episode 5 – “The Army of God”, and Episode 6 – “The Nuwaubian Nation of Moors.”

Warning! Both are quite disturbing, especially that second one. The so-called “leader” got away with molesting children in that particular cult for over 7 years before a former member asked the FBI to investigate it! Truly awful!

Those types of cults are more recognizable (except to the victims) to outsiders.  They are more blatantly and  obviously wrong in their teachings.   In many cases, they can be seen as demonic.

However, there are cults that appear to be “good,” (at first), and are more subtle (at first) in their ways in order to hook people into them.

One of my favorite books to read and use as a reference in “So What’s The Difference” by Fritz Ridenour. I think that every Christian should read this book and have it on hand whenever questions come up regarding worldviews, faiths, religions, and cults and how they compare to Biblical Christianity.

I just happened to be re-reading chapter twelve “Nothing New Under the Sun” that exposes eleven more viewpoints that undermine, challenge or attack Biblical Christianity.

The section that describes “The International Churches of Christ (Formerly, The Boston Church of Christ)” (ICC Church) shares some details that possibly describe what Carey has gotten into through his marriage and the skewed beliefs that may have been taught to him.  Some details of the ICC Church (which has cult practices) could have been utilized by one or two persons in his life which could have possibly manipulated him to become estranged from family, former co-workers, and friends.

The chapter is too long to share everything, so I recommend getting the book! However, here are some important excerpts that reveal the typical manipulation techniques inherent in cults.

Briefly, the ICC Church is a relatively new, fast-growing and controversial church movement that has been accused by its numerous critics (many of the ex-members) of cultic practices, mind control and mental/emotional abuse. 83

As the church grew, the ICC church leader (Kip McKean) believed that all other churches were poisoned by traditions, compromised or apostate. Using an illogical interpretation of Revelation 2 and 3, he began teaching there should be only “one church in one city.” He also taught that churches not affiliated with the Boston church in each city were “not of God.” 89

Of course, biblical Christian ministries opposed McKean’s teachings. The ICC hired a church growth research firm which backfired on them because instead of showing the ICC to be a wholesome and healthy organization, the study revealed that the ICC was “producing in its members the very same pattern of unhealthy personality change” that had been observed in studies of other well-known manipulative cults, such as Hare Krishna and the Unification Church (the Moonies). 90

The study added that the data proved that a group dynamic operating in the ICC “influences members to change their personalities to conform to the group norm.” 91

Uh-oh!  That sounds exactly like what was done to Carey!

Of course, the church leader claims that the ICC was “making people over after the image of Jesus Christ.”  Mr. Yeakley’s (who did the study) reply to McKean was that Christ’s divine nature is reflected in individuals whose gifts differ, and their personality types should not change in such a way as to “become a copy of someone else.” 92

Was Carey convinced that he had to become similar to a copy of his wife, Aurora?

But there’s more very concerning issues!

New converts are not told to confess their sins directly to God, but also to their mentors who then pass the shocking and private details about their personal sins up the line to other officials in the church!  “A congregational ‘Sin List,’ if you will.” 104

Sounds more like a future blackmail list that could be used to prevent members from leaving.

Former members have reported that the typical experience for many converts is to be distanced from their old friends and even their families and drawn more and more into ICC church activities, ideas and priorities.

But there are even more lying, cult-like practices!

ICC members who tire of the constant pressure, badgering and demands to live up to ICC rules and regulations are told that, if they leave the church, they will go to hell. [HUGE LIE!]

Obviously, the ICC twists Scripture in such a way and harshly pressures members not to leave, that the victim recants the decision to leave out of guilt, fear and confusion. 105

Jesus taught His disciples to serve one another instead of “lording it over each other as the rulers of the Gentiles do” (see Matt. 20:25-28).

The Bible teaches the Christian to confess sins to God, who will cleanse and forgive (see 1 John 1:5-10).

The ICC’s skewed lessons on discipleship turns “salvation by grace through faith” into “salvation by faith plus works,” which directly contradicts Ephesians 2:8,9.

The system of one-over-one discipling and the control structures employed by Kip McKean are so fundamentally flawed and inherently corrupting that even good people with the best of intentions end up hurting others and being hurt themselves.” 113

Graphic:  Ex Church of Christ cult survivors

Carey’s mom thinks that his wife’s family practices some of the methods of the ICC church.  It doesn’t always happen in an established church environment.  Wrong-headed counseling by someone who may have just received a degree and may not be versed in the Berean way regarding discipleship, may tend to be the type to  “lord it over” someone who could be naïve or even deeply gullible.

Global Puppet Master Soros Funds BLM Movement

August 17, 2016

I have written about the evil man known as George Soros in the past. See my list of posts HERE.  If readers are not familiar with Soros, please read all about him at this Commieblaster indexed link!

The following information from Now The End Begins reveals Soros-satan as the real power behind the “black lives matter” movement.

George Soros’s funding of the Black Lives Matter movement is part of an integration into a tapestry of organizations used to disrupt and weaken our society to engineer a socialistic transformation. Since the 1920s and 1930s, as presented in Harold Cruse’s book “The Crisis of The Negro Intellectual,” there has been a focused strategy by the Communist party to use the black community and the poor as a battering ram against “the system” for the purpose of fundamentally changing America into a leftist utopia. Their successful efforts in infiltrating the civil rights movement and other legitimate struggles for justice has been well-documented by many historians and scholars recording the history of the civil rights movement in America.

There is an example of how this co-optation has played out in recent history that demonstrates how the left uses black and poor communities to advance their agenda. George Wiley, who was an agent of Richard Cloward and Frances Piven, Marxist professors at Columbia University, formed a group called the “National Welfare Rights Movement” in 1969. This leftist organization exploited the poor with a plan to implement a socialistic strategy to overwhelm New York City’s welfare system. Cloward and Piven’s strategy to orchestrate crisis is evident in the tactics now employed by the BLM movement. Organizers and leaders of BLM are using the same playbook and strategy of George Wiley to advance their Marxist agenda in the public square today. This disruptive strategy is precisely the predominant influence manifesting itself in the “Black Lives Matter” movement across America. BLM is being aggressively manipulated by the left with funds from Soros in order to force a radical change in how local policing is done in America. Through overreach and the expansion of centralized systems controlled by Washington, D.C., the left is attempting to control local policing. This evil manipulation of black and poor communities is a common strategy that has been used successfully in the 70s, 80s, and 90s to advance their ultimate goal of “fundamentally transforming” America.

David Horowitz in his book “Breaking The System” writes that “the left’s strategy called for a cadres of aggressive organizers to create street actions by the poor that would create a climate of militancy.” This “cadres of aggressive” community organizers are studied in two ideas, one developed by Saul Alinsky in his book “Rules for Radicals,” and other by Richard Cloward and Frances Piven in their now famous philosophy called “Crisis Strategy.” Horowitz suggested that climate of militancy will cause fear of racial violence which will pressure politicians to cave in to the demands set forth by the leftist who are leading these movements. These community organizers who are prominently positioned in the Black Lives Matters movement are committed disciples of Cloward and Piven and Saul Alinsky.

What we are witnessing in the BLM movement in simple terms are the deliberate efforts by the liberal progressives in America under the influence of Marxism to infiltrate and manipulate the black community. What’s behind their dastardly plan is to replace capitalism with socialism and to ultimately remove the influence of our Judeo-Christian heritage from the public square. These “aggressive community organizers” are fanning the flames of discontentment. By co-opting a legitimate issue related to stranded relationship between the community, local police, and police intimidation, they are using discontentment to advance their agenda. They are stirring passions into “a climate of militancy” and at the same time alienating race relationship in America.

The old adage “divide and conquer” is playing out right before our collective eyes. The plan is a simple one — weaken America and then change her. The leadership of BLM is fully aware of this scheme; however, the average participants (the foot soldier) in the movement are oblivious to this highly sophisticated, exploitive, and manipulative strategy.

The concern for the community is not the motivating reason why these Marxists are involved in this movement. The leaders of the BLM movement are careful to maintain a narrative that is devoid of the major issues adversely impacting black communities all over this country. High unemployment, gang crime, black-on-black homicide, the failure of government schools to prepare our children for a 21st century economy, and the number one killer of black people: abortion on demand. It is disheartening to see how leadership in the BLM movement have bought into this Marxist deception and refuse to address these issues, especially abortion and its devastating impact on our babies and women. Black Lives Matter’s refusal to confront the biggest provider of abortion in the black community that perpetrates the mass murder of our babies, — Planned Parenthood and its partners in death the abortion industry — is very telling about their concern for the community. These merchants of death have destroyed over 35 million black babies since 1973 and have psychologically scared thousands upon thousands of black women for profit. More black babies are aborted than any other ethnic group in America. And what’s not reported to the black community is that when we hear of Planned Parenthood selling baby parts for profit, most of those babies are our black babies! Where is the outrage from these so called leaders?

The socialists and Marxists leading BLM are unconcerned with these very real issues in our community. The refusal to address what has been historically and empirically documented as a eugenic plot to demographically demolish black and minority communities (abortion) across this globe is simply unacceptable. In addition, I find it hard to be believe the systematic dismantling of the black family through government overreach and nanny state intrusion into our families escape their notice.

That Marxist manipulators who lead the Black Lives Matter movement seem more than happy to take funding from the likes of George Soros and betray the best interest of our community in order to achieve their desire to divide and conquer our beloved nation is nothing short of evil.

Facebook’s Secret Mood Manipulation Experiment [Plus Breaking News!]

July 1, 2014

Facebook's Psychological Experiments Connected to Department of Defense Research

Once again, I have another good reason to leave Facebook.   Back in 2012 (or thereabouts) I left because of the blatant discrimination and blocking of Christian and Conservative themed pages.   But don’t take my word for it. See a page that has documented many examples of the political and religious censorship and harassment by Facebook

A few days ago, the news came out (at least it did on Fox News Channel) that these nefarious individuals took it upon themselves to do a secret mood manipulation experiment on over 600,000 users (without their permission or knowledge) makes me feel that the honesty and integrity of these people is highly questionable.  As the article states at the top – “It was probably legal. But was it ethical?”

We interrupt this (about to be published) post for BREAKING NEWS!  Just found this link at another site:

SCG News: Facebook’s Psychological Experiments Connected to Department of Defense Research on Civil Unrest!

It turns out that one of the researchers who ran Facebook’s recent psychological experiments received funding from the U.S. Department of Defense to study the contagion of ideas.

There has been quite a bit of chatter this past week after it was revealed that a recent Facebook outage was the result of a psychological experiment that the company conducted on a portion of its users without their permission. The experiment, which was described in a paper published by Facebook, and UCSF, tested the contagion of emotions on social media by manipulating the content of personal feeds and measuring how this impacted user behavior.

Over 600,000 users were used as guinea pigs without their consent, which raises a number of serious ethical and legal questions (particularly due to the fact that this study received federal funding), however there is an even more disturbing angle to this story. It turns out that this research was connected to a Department of Defense project called the Minerva Initiative, which funds universities to model the dynamics, risks and tipping points for large-scale civil unrest across the world.

In the official credits for the study conducted by Facebook you’ll find Jeffrey T. Hancock from Cornell University. If you go to the Minerva initiative website you’ll find that Jeffery Hancock received funding from the Department of Defense for a study called “Cornell: Modeling Discourse and Social Dynamics in Authoritarian Regimes”. If you go to the project site for that study you’ll find a visualization program that models the spread of beliefs and disease.

Cornell University is currently being funded for another DoD study right now called “Cornell: Tracking Critical-Mass Outbreaks in Social Contagions” (you’ll find the description for this project on the Minerva Initiative’s funding page).

The Department of Defense’s investment in the mechanics of psychological contagion and Facebook’s assistance, have some very serious implications, particularly when placed in context with other scandals which have broken in the past two years.

First of all we know that Facebook willingly participated (and presumably is still participating) in the NSA’s PRISM program by giving the agency unfettered access to user communications. We also know that the U.S. government has invested heavily in technology used to track and model the spread of opinions on social media.

The entire time that I was working on this post, I thought in the back of my mind that there must be something more to the “Facebook Secret Manipulation Experiment.” Well, I found it! We now return to the original post content.

I agree with one commenter at the (  link who wrote:

I guess Big Brother is done with just watching.

Now it involves manipulation of emotions. When you give permission to FB via the “agreement” when you signed up, did you know that you, your family, your friends, and your postings would not only be “owned” content, but would be used to manipulate? It’s one thing to try and manipulate purchases via ads, but to change the news feed (either positive stories or negative ones) of over 600,000 members in order to manipulate their emotions is unethical – to say the least!

Updated, Monday, 10:40 p.m. Eastern.

Facebook’s News Feed—the main list of status updates, messages, and photos you see when you open Facebook on your computer or phone—is not a perfect mirror of the world.

But few users expect that Facebook would change their News Feed in order to manipulate their emotional state.

We now know that’s exactly what happened two years ago. For one week in January 2012, data scientists skewed what almost 700,000 Facebook users saw when they logged into its service. Some people were shown content with a preponderance of happy and positive words; some were shown content analyzed as sadder than average. And when the week was over, these manipulated users were more likely to post either especially positive or negative words themselves.

This tinkering was just revealed as part of a new study, published in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Many previous studies have used Facebook data to examine “emotional contagion,” as this one did. This study is different because, while other studies have observed Facebook user data, this one set out to manipulate it.

The experiment is almost certainly legal. In the company’s current terms of service, Facebook users relinquish the use of their data for “data analysis, testing, [and] research.” Is it ethical, though? Since news of the study first emerged, I’ve seen and heard both privacy advocates and casual users express surprise at the audacity of the experiment.

Further down in the article:

Did an institutional review board (IRB)—an independent ethics committee that vets research that involves humans—approve the experiment?

Yes, according to Susan Fiske, the Princeton University psychology professor who edited the study for publication. It seems an IRB was only consulted about the methods of data analysis, though, and not those of data collection.

According to a Cornell University press statement on Monday, the experiment was conducted before an IRB was consulted. Cornell professor Jeffrey Hancock—an author of the study—began working on the results after Facebook had conducted the experiment. Hancock only had access to results, says the release, so “Cornell University’s Institutional Review Board concluded that he was not directly engaged in human research and that no review by the Cornell Human Research Protection Program was required.”

In other words, the experiment had already been run, so its human subjects were beyond protecting. Assuming the researchers did not see users’ confidential data, the results of the experiment could be examined without further endangering any subjects.

Both Cornell and Facebook have been reluctant to provide details about the process beyond their respective prepared statements. One of the study’s authors told The Atlantic on Monday that he’s been advised by the university not to speak to reporters.

By the time the study reached Susan Fiske, the Princeton University psychology professor who edited the study for publication, Cornell’s IRB members had already determined it outside of their purview.

Fiske had earlier conveyed to The Atlantic that the experiment was IRB-approved.

“I was concerned,” Fiske told The Atlantic on Saturday, “until I queried the authors and they said their local institutional review board had approved it—and apparently on the grounds that Facebook apparently manipulates people’s News Feeds all the time.”

There you have it folks!  FB does this kind of manipulation all the time!

On Saturday, Fiske said that she didn’t want the “the originality of the research” to be lost, but called the experiment “an open ethical question.”

“It’s ethically okay from the regulations perspective, but ethics are kind of social decisions. There’s not an absolute answer. And so the level of outrage that appears to be happening suggests that maybe it shouldn’t have been done…I’m still thinking about it and I’m a little creeped out, too.” [bold and italics mine]

For more, check Atlantic editor Adrienne LaFrance’s full interview with Prof. Fiske.

What’s more:

As mentioned above, the research seems to have been carried out under Facebook’s extensive terms of service. The company’s current data use policy, which governs exactly how it may use users’ data, runs to more than 9,000 words and uses the word “research” twice. But as Forbes writer Kashmir Hill reported Monday night, the data use policy in effect when the experiment was conducted never mentioned “research” at all—the word wasn’t inserted until May 2012.  [bold mine]

I plan to link this post on my current FB page and will keep it up for a few days. It might end up being censored – we shall see. However, after a few days I will need to leave FB.

I do not know if any users will take these issues as seriously as I have, but it’s just plain ethical for me to warn my family, friends, and acquaintances about the facts regarding not only the political and religious censorship and harassment on that site, but also the secret mood manipulation experiment. It’s truly disgusting that FB would allow a defamation page that says something as awful as this:

June 2014: The Facebook page “Virgin Mary should´ve aborted“ covers images of the unborn Jesus as an abortion victim wearing a crown of thorns and blood flowing from his side while the Virgin Mary smokes a marijuana cigar. The content of this page is mostly anti-Christian, as well as pro-abortion. The statements on this page are spreading defamation and hatred against Christians and Christianity.

Such nefarious deeds echo the warnings of:

Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.”

George Orwell’s “1984

Most prophetic of all, is what is written in the Bible.

Jesus’ own words and warnings about an evil generation looking for “a sign” and much more is written in Matthew 12

The book of Jude prophetically describes how it will be the closer we approach the end times.

Despite all of this, we know that when we belong to Jesus, we can be joyful and glad – even in the midst of all the chaos of sin, evil, and death being inflicted in this fallen world:

Jde 1:20

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

Jde 1:21

keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Jde 1:22

And on some have compassion, making a distinction; [fn]

Jde 1:23

but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, [fn] hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

Jde 1:24

Now to Him who is able to keep you [fn] from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,

Jde 1:25

To God our Savior, [fn]
Who alone is wise, [fn]
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power, [fn]
Both now and forever.

The mindset in postmodernism is that objective truth does not exist. But in post-truth, the person believes that objective truth exists, but they subordinate truth to their preferences, or their comfort. In other words, one doesn’t care that truth exists or what the truth is if it doesn’t line up with one’s preferences. "There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily" - George Washington letter to Edmund Randolph — 1795. Faith in Jesus Christ is our response to God's elective purpose in our life. These two truths--God's initiative and man's response--co-exist throughout the Bible. The gospel is "the message of truth" because truth is its predominant characteristic. Salvation was conceived by the God of truth (Ps. 31:5); purchased by the Son, who is the truth (John 14:6); and is applied by the Spirit of truth (John 16:13). To know it is to know the truth that sets men free (John 8:32). Believers are people of the truth (John 18:37), who worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24), and who obey the Word of truth (John 17:17). People have rejected, neglected, redefined, and opposed God’s truth for centuries. Some cynically deny that truth even exists or that it can be known by men (John 18:38). Others foolishly think that denying truth will somehow make it go away. Truth determines the validity of one's belief. Believing a lie doesn't make it true. Conversely, failing to believe the truth doesn't make it a lie. The gospel is true because Jesus is true, not simply because Christians believe in Him. His resurrection proved the truth of His claims and constitutes the objective basis of our faith (Rom. 1:4; 1 Pet. 1:3). Truth is our protection and strength (Eph. 6:14). Throughout history, people have tried everything imaginable to gain favor with God. Most turn to religion, but religion apart from Christ is merely a satanic counterfeit of the truth. At the heart of every false religion is the notion that man can come to God by any means he chooses--by meditating, doing good deeds, and so on. But Scripture says, "There is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). That name is Jesus Christ, and we come to Him by confessing and repenting of our sin, trusting in His atoning death on the cross, and affirming His bodily resurrection from the grave (cf. Rom. 10:9-10). There is no other way to God. False religious leaders and teachers talk much about God’s love, but not His wrath and holiness; much about how deprived of good things people are, but not about their depravity; much about God’s universal fatherhood toward everyone, but not much about his unique fatherhood toward all who believe in His Son; much about what God wants to give to us, but nothing about the necessity of obedience to Him; much about health and happiness, but nothing about holiness and sacrifice. Their message is full of gaps, the greatest of which leaves out a biblical worldview of the saving gospel and replaces it with the worldview of postmodernism with its dominant ethical system of relativism. The Bible describes mankind in the end times: “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Tim. 3:7). Spiritual answers cannot be deduced by human reason alone (1 Cor. 2:14). It’s not that spiritual truth is irrational or illogical, but that human wisdom is defective, because it’s tainted by man’s sinfulness, and unable to perceive the things of God. That is why the Bible is so important. It gives us the answers we can’t find on our own. It is God’s Word to mankind. Scripture is divinely revealed truth that fills the vacuum of spiritual ignorance in all of us. Post-truth is the word of the year for 2016 and also the philosophy of the day, According to the dictionary, “post-truth” means, “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.” Simply put, we now live in a culture that seems to value experience and emotion more than truth. In a “post-truth” world, people make choices based on emotion and experience rather than objective fact. So in a post-truth world, truth is irrelevant. What exactly is a post-truth culture? It’s a culture where truth is no longer an objective reality. It has become subjective. It’s what’s true for me—my beliefs, my opinions, determine my truth. So in our post-truth culture, man determines truth. Man makes himself the ultimate authority. This starting point, which rejects God’s Word and the idea of moral absolutes, makes truth subjective. Truth will never go away no matter how hard one might wish. Christianity is grounded in objective truth. “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Objective truth exists because we have God’s Word. In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Thy word is truth” (John 17:17), and Paul and James describe the Bible as “the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15; James 1:18). The Psalmist says, “The entirety of your word is truth” (Psalm 119:160). Jesus Himself said, “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice” (John 18:37). When Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except by me” (John 14:6), He wasn’t expressing His personal belief or opinion. He was speaking the truth, a fundamental reality that doesn’t change from person to person. It doesn’t matter if our culture thinks all roads lead to God. The truth of the matter is “no one comes to the Father but by [Jesus].” This blogs goal is to, in some small way, put a plug in the broken dam of truth and save as many as possible from the consequences—temporal and eternal. "The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it." - George Orwell
