What Is Memorial Day All About?

When young people today are asked about what Memorial Day is all about, you get terribly ignorant and sad answers like the ones given to Jesse Watters in this video.

These people need to watch this World War II video!   In fact, it should be required viewing in all high schools!

But the liberal, leftist, progressive, LGBTQ “leaders” of the maniacal asylums called “public schools” these days, want to dumb down our children and grandchildren in order to indoctrinate them against the biblical principles of their parents and grandparents.

Instead, they are intent on their “destroy the natural family” meme and goals,  through brain-dirtying children’s minds into what we are currently seeing today.  The recent insanity of the transgender “bathroom wars” is just one clear example of how truly ridiculous and unnecessary it all is! It’s truly awful and such a shame!

If only they knew what The Greatest Generation did for America and the world!

 

If only they knew what our military men and women endured in WWII –  and the blood, treasure, and lives that it took to stop the fanaticism

of Nazi Germany,

 

 

Imperial Japan,

 

and Communist Russia!

Let’s not forget El Duce Mussolini!

 

 

If only the young people today – who have obviously not learned the truth and horrors of the past – could learn and vividly see how such fanaticisms back then led to gross evil, sin, indoctrination, and death!  Then perhaps they would have their blinded eyes opened in order to see the truth and break away from today’s evil indoctrinations!   These are not limited to, but do include the anti-Christian hatred driven by those who hate God and the Bible, the rise of radical Islamic terrorism, the phony global warming meme [Update: John Coleman has died. May he rest in peace.], and all of the lurid sexual deviancies being pushed as “normal”!

If only they would go to the Bible to learn absolute Truth!

 

 

If only they knew God’s Word…then they could gain the mind, will, soul, spirit and intellect in order to escape the satanic lures of indoctrination being inflicted upon them!

 

 

Thanks to all in the military who serve today.

Thanks to those who served back then, all of those who were injured and all who gave their lives in order to end the awful, but necessary carnage of WWII. In addition, we thank all who fought, bled, were injured, and died in the subsequent wars since then.

It pains me to think that there are so many generations (especially since the baby boomer generation)  that don’t even know or appreciate the horrors of the hard-fought war of WWII for the sakes of all born afterwards who now enjoy life, liberty, freedom and justice.

Well, I have another type of post to share today that may very well generate another heated debate.

As with any topic, the concept of truth vs. error is involved.

The utilization of discernment and wisdom from God (via His Word – the Bible) will become quite evident!

Could HE be THE ANTICHRIST? When individuals have said that b4 about Presidents/Popes/etc. I just rolled my eyes but this guy . . . his arrogance is so over the top, for some reason he is charismatic (I don’t know why), even tho’ he ‘claims’ to be a Christian, he does just the opposite of what God would want/he lies so easily and people BELIEVE HIM! People blindly trust him, YET he taught his own children not to trust anyone ‘NOT EVEN HIM’! I cannot explain it but when he speaks especially “when America is great again” statements he seems, I don’t know, plastic if you understand me. I had the “opportunity” to meet him back in the 90’s when I worked for a bank that he was dealing with. He was no different then, then now. All the girls were swooning over him. I could not figure out why. I had to walk away. Anyway, I’ve got this strng feeling about him/Antichrist because of his waaaaay over the top arrogance, pride, lies, nastiness and yet people love him. I appreciate the more rational tone of this article, but the logic of Christians actively supporting Trump fails. Jews did not “vote” or give their seal of approval over Cyrus; they were conquered by a brutal nation because of a leadership failure. You say you were worried about “King Cruz” yet you are okay with comparing Trump to King Cyrus? Wow. And when did a man become responsible for his father’s words or beliefs? Last time I checked, each of us is responsible for our own conduct, including every idle word. You impugned Ted Cruz over nasty media articles – many from liberal sites such as Slate – that tried to paint Cruz as a Dominionist based on his father’s preaching. I believe evangelicals have been played. The media used the term like the way they paint evangelicals as radical fundamentalists.

Many of us who supported Cruz did not support him for being a Christian – who knows the salvation of any one person (and how can you judge the state of Cruz’s salvation? How can you say that Cruz is disqualified for “ties” when Trump has much, much worse associations?) – but we supported Cruz because he is the only one of the candidates with a viable shot who is a Constitutional Conservative and one who supports religious freedom. Cruz was hated more by the establishment than Trump – called “Lucifer in the flesh”. Those who support Trump have turned on the Constitution. Trump is a big government progressive. He will not build the wall – especially when he sees the price tag and the debt we are in. And what good is a wall when people can tunnel under, go over, go around, or go through?

The reality is we are facing financial collapse. We are facing nuclear attack. We are facing unprecedented natural catastrophe. The bible states that only a fool longs for the Day of the Lord. Who longs for sinners to be judged, when we should be praying for their redemption? The bible is clear that we will see the abomination of desolation standing were it ought not, and so we must be prepared for some hard times.

We will see churches lose there tax exempt status. We will see churches sued, closed, and pastors put in jail before long. We will see bibles removed from homes – a famine for the word is coming, so hide the Word in your heart.

Geoff,

What you believe about Trump and what you know are two VERY different things. Trump may very well be what God has in mind to rule America in the last days, (May God’s will be done.) but you have presumed to know the mind of God in this matter, and furthermore, you have supported a known ungodly man for president in the process. I just don’t think you can reconcile voting for him if we had other choices, and we did. The heathen and the ungodly at least have an excuse. You KNOW better. My mother, and quite possibly yours, always said, “Two wrongs don’t make a right.” That is the principle I see in play here. We have tried to reverse one wrong with another. In the grand scheme of things, it could be everyone gets a pass on who they support in elections, but I don’t think so. How do you suppose God will deal with the priests and the pastors that supported Hitler’s rise to power in WWII? Many Christians went to their death for how they handled that election because they refused to go along. We don’t know what Trump will do if he is elected. Some predict he will become a dictator worse than Obama or that he is a Trojan horse. Whatever you may think about Cruz, his track record was one of standing up for the Constitution as well as getting in the face of the RINOS in Congress. Prayer is what is needed now. We have sown our crop and are getting ready to the reap whirlwind.

Very informative. The Bible in correct context Geoffrey. Most Christians are not Bible Scholars and many with great knowledge are way off . I like the pro and Con Question format and your Biblical responses . I do believe The Lords purpose will prevail . Watch and pray , walk in the spirit of truth and love as Jesus walked . So shall we who trust obey and follow Jesus Christ . Titus 2 ; The Grace of God that brings salvation ! The blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior ! Thanks! Geoffrey, You have written a great article here, and more than likely, if we knew the future, you’ve hit the nail on the head with it. We all know that God uses people in ways that only He sees fit.
Even though critics were going at him in every direction, Trump just kept gaining in the polls. Like some would say, “he’s unstoppable.” God is in control of this.

We have accepted homosexuality as an alternative lifestyle and this was the final nail in the coffin of the USA. It is being pushed hard through mass media, which Donald Trump is a master manipulator of. We were never going to vote a person that’s not degenerate into the highest office in the land. The media can make the masses believe anything they want, that’s why saturating our souls with Gods Word and growing in His grace and knowledge is the only thing we as a country can do to arm ourselves agains the god of this world. This morning while reading my Devotional and doing my study, my spirit led me to Jeremiah 23. I am going to write some of the scriptures here which is directed to “Prophets” and encourage you to read the entire chapter.

Thus says the Lord of hosts:

“Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you.

Behold, I Make All Things New

While watching the Revelation Song music video,  I was reminded of the scene in the movie The Passion of the Christ where Mary, the mother of Jesus, came to him as He had fallen underneath the weight of the cross on the way to Calvary.  He looked at Mary and said, “Behold, I make all things new.”

That is a statement from the book of Revelation.

Rev 21:5

Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me,[fn] “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

When I think about the evil, sin, and death that all human beings (including me!) have put forth and are guilty of on this earth, it deeply grieves me. God’s Word tells us why:

Rom 8:22

For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

When Jesus started his earthly ministry, he said:

Mat 4:17

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Those who refuse to repent:

Rev 21:8

“But the cowardly, unbelieving,[fn] abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Without Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross for our sins, His resurrection to life, and subsequent ascension into heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father; all of us would deserve that punishment!

Because of the sin we all bear upon our own souls, we either die with such sin or we repent!

Jesus Christ took the sins of the whole world upon Himself in the greatest act of mercy ever known, in order that we would not have to pay the penalty of sin ourselves in eternity! No greater love is there than for a Man to give his life for his fellow man! That is what Jesus accomplished when he obeyed perfectly the will of the Father in order to achieve redemption for those who would believe in the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and follow him!

Recall what the prophet Jeremiah wrote:

Jer 17:9

“The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?

None of us are exempt from that reality!  However, the very next verse tells us what the LORD searches for in each person who has ever lived!

Jer 17:10

I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.

This verse gives us the hope of the coming Messiah:

Jer 17:7

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
And whose hope is the LORD.

Revelation informs us of Who Jesus is!

Rev 22:13

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”[fn]

Rev 22:14

Blessed are those who do His commandments,[fn] that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

 

Who Am I?  by Casting Crowns reiterates this truth:

 

We are still given warnings in the book of Revelation:

Rev 22:15

But[fn] outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

John identifies Who is speaking to him:

Rev 22:16

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

And those whose names are in the Book of Life are given eternal life with God!

Rev 22:17

And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Back to Jeremiah:

Jer 17:13

O LORD, the hope of Israel,
All who forsake You shall be ashamed.

“Those who depart from Me
Shall be written in the earth,
Because they have forsaken the LORD,
The fountain of living waters.”

Jer 17:14

Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed;
Save me, and I shall be saved,
For You are my praise.

The cries of hope, healing, and salvation in Jeremiah are realized in Revelation:

Rev 22:20

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Rev 22:21

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.[fn] Amen.

Relativists hate Truth and work to suppress it

In my previous post regarding the question, Is America Under Judgment? , fellow Christian commenters shared their beliefs on that issue.

This morning, I found a commentary written by Linda Kimball over at Patriots and Liberty.com, where she discusses truth, our current age of moral relativism (plus the huge problems it presents), and the judgment of God.

I suggest reading the essay in its entirety.   However, I will share some important excerpts below.

Excerpt #1 about Truth vs. moral relativism:

Truth however, is neither the seductive lies of the devil nor the worldly opinions, fleeting feelings and perverted choices of fallen men and women but rather the Second Person of the Holy Trinity (John 16:6). Jesus is the embodiment of the wisdom of God; He is the eternally unchanging Word of God. John 1:10 tells us that everything seen and unseen was created ex nihilo by the spoken Word of the Son of God, which means that Jesus Christ was active and present long before His incarnation, therefore eternally co-existent with the Father. Jesus Christ is therefore God just as the Father and Holy Spirit are God, hence the Word of the Old Testament’s creation account is Jesus Christ of the New Testament (John 1:1). Jesus Christ is the Word. His Word is Truth even as He Himself is Truth, the same today as yesterday and for always. Truth then is Jesus Christ Who teaches, “The truth will make you free.”

Truth is fidelity to Jesus Christ, hence Truth is an objective reality meant to be shared by all mankind. But like their father the devil, relativists hate Truth and work to suppress it, and herein lies the psychological violence which is the evil fruit of moral relativism:

“The clue to the mentality of the liar, in his hatred of truth, is his hatred of God. And this hatred of God floods over into hatred of those whom God loves, the innumerable millions for whom his divine Son died.” (The Roots of Violence, Vincent P. Miceli, S.J., p. 29)

Excerpt from Matthew Henry’s commentary on 2 Peter 3:

How great a blessing this is we learn by observing what is the pernicious consequence of the errors that ignorant and unstable men fall into-even their own destruction. Errors in particular concerning the holiness and justice of God are the utter ruin of multitudes of men. Let us therefore earnestly pray for the Spirit of God to instruct us in the truth, that we may know it as it is in Jesus, and have our hearts established with grace, that we may stand firm and unshaken, even in the most stormy times, when others are tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine.

III. The apostle gives them a word of caution, v. 17, 18, where, 1. He intimates that the knowledge we have of these things should make us very wary and watchful, inasmuch as there is a twofold danger, v. 17. (1.) We are in great danger of being seduced, and turned away from the truth. The unlearned and unstable, and they are very numerous, do generally wrest the scripture. Many who have the scriptures and read them do not understand what they read; and too many of those who have a right understanding of the sense and meaning of the word are not established in the belief of the truth, and all these are liable to fall into error. Few attain to the knowledge and acknowledgment of doctrinal Christianity; and fewer find, so as to keep in the way of practical godliness, which is the narrow way, which only leadeth unto life.

There must be a great deal of self-denial and suspicion of ourselves, and submitting to the authority of Christ Jesus our great prophet, before we can heartily receive all the truths of the gospel, and therefore we are in great danger of rejecting the truth.
(2.) We are in great danger by being seduced; for, [1.] So far as we are turned from the truth so far are we turned out-of-the-way to true blessedness, into the path which leads to destruction. If men corrupt the word of God, it tends to their own utter ruin.
[2.] When men wrest the word of God, they fall into the error of the wicked, men without law, who keep to no rules, set no bounds to themselves, a sort of free-thinkers, which the psalmist detests. Ps. 119:113, I hate vain thoughts, but thy law do I love. Whatever opinions and thoughts of men are not conformable to the law of God, and warranted by it, the good man disclaims and abhors; they are the conceits and counsels of the ungodly, who have forsaken God’s law, and, if we imbibe their opinions, we shall too soon imitate their practices.
[3.] Those who are led away by error fall from their own steadfastness. They are wholly unhinged and unsettled, and know not where to rest, but are at the greatest uncertainty, like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind and tossed. It nearly concerns us therefore to be upon our guard, seeing the danger is so great.

Back to Linda Kimball’s essay; excerpt #2:

According to the highly respected Evangelical minister Erwin Lutzer, a majority of contemporary Americans prefer darkness to light:

“No nation has turned away from so much light in order to choose darkness. No nation has squandered as many opportunities as we have. We can only call on God for mercy, and if it pleases Him He will come to our aid….if we humble ourselves, weeping for this nation, God may yet intervene and restore decency to this crazed world. Most of all, we should pray that millions would be converted and belong to God forever. People change their minds only when God changes their hearts.”  (Erwin W. Lutzer, Where Do We Go From Here?: Hope and Direction in our Present Crisis)

Some Christians are of the opinion that God is not (yet!) judging America.  However, we are so close (and obviously deserved of judgment here in 2016!) that it is more important than ever to get right with God!

Excerpt # 3 of Linda Kimball essay:

Guinness sums up the downward spiral of the West under the Judgment of God:

“ Western cultural elites have disregarded God for more than two centuries, but for a while the effects were mostly confined to their own circles. At first, they disregarded God. Then they deliberately desecrated Western tradition and lived in ways that would have spelled disaster if they had been followed more closely. But now in the early twenty-first century, their movement from disregard to desecration to decadence is going mainstream, and the United States is only the lead society among those close to the tipping point…. Soon, as the legalization and then normalization of polyamory, polygamy, pedophilia and incest follow the same logic as that of abortion and homosexuality, the socially destructive consequences of these trends will reverberate throughout society until social chaos is beyond recovery. We can only pray there will be a return to God and sanity before the terrible sentence is pronounced: “God has given them over” to the consequences of their own settled choices.” (p. 20)

The thoughts and goals of reprobate people who clamor for transgender “equal access for men to go into women’s bathrooms” would previously have been not only considered as absolutely absurd in the past, but unconscionable and mentally insane!

But now, polls are saying that 12% of the public is “coming around” on even that peculiar and ridiculous delusion!

Where would this end?

It won’t… until “social chaos is beyond recovery.”

Perhaps “God has given them over” as it says in Scripture…to such consequences… by those who would allow themselves to celebrate such sin and evil.

How do Christians in today’s world avoid being led away?

Matthew Henry’s has the answers in his commentary:

 

2. That we may the better avoid being led away, the apostle directs us what to do, v. 18. And, (1.) We must grow in grace. He had in the beginning of the epistle exhorted us to add one grace to another, and here he advises us to grow in all grace, in faith, and virtue, and knowledge. By how much the stronger grace is in us, by so much the more stedfast shall we be in the truth.

(2.) We must grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. “Follow on to know the Lord. Labour to know him more clearly and more fully, to know more of Christ and to know him to better purpose, so as to be more like him and to love him better.’ This is the knowledge of Christ the apostle Paul reached after and desired to attain, Phil. 3:10.

Such a knowledge of Christ as conforms us more to him, and endears him more to us, must needs be of great use to us, to preserve us from falling off in times of general apostasy; and those who experience this effect of the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will, upon receiving such grace from him, give thanks and praise to him, and join with our apostle in saying, To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Is America Under Judgment?

This is a question for anyone who cares to share their own opinion, scholarly review(s), or biblical knowledge about this topic.  Is America currently under judgment?

I asked that question of a Christian friend in a previous comment thread who happens to support Donald Trump for president.

When I first started blogging about my opposition to Trump as the nominee, I did write that even though he isn’t my choice for president, IMHO he would be light-years better than either HiLIARy [H/T Steve of Cry and Howl for link] or Commie Bernie. All that I could do is hope for the best concerning him. However, the more I learn about him, the less I think that my previous opinion was accurate.

Recently, the media of mass deception (can’t trust them, of course!) has claimed that Trump stated that his plans for banning Muslim immigrants “is a suggestion.” First he said he would ban them “until we know what is going on”…whatever that means. Next, he said that it would be a temporary ban. OK good – that brings some clarity to the issue. This morning I watched a brief segment of the news on CNN, and they had as the byline beneath the screen that Trump is now saying, “everything is a suggestion.” I shake my head in disbelief that he ever said that! Do you know if it’s true? I didn’t think that Trump would be so wishy-washy and it bothers me.

Now, I hear that Mitt Romney and a bunch of anti-Trump Republicans want to draft Mark Cuban to run as a third-party candidate.

I have tried to wrap my mind around all of the possible scenarios regarding this election and at this point, I can’t even imagine what is going to happen.

I fear that God still places America under judgment because of her sins. Such sins run rampant like never before and until the people in this nation repent and turn back to the Lord Jesus Christ, we will continue to deserve such judgment.

This is an interesting study on some very pertinent events in the recent history of the United States. Rabbi Cahn uses the verse in Isaiah 9:10 as a focus for his analysis of events in this country starting on September 11, 2001 with the destruction of the two World Trade Center towers representing the first shaking.

The documentary is in two parts, “The First Shaking” and “The Second Shaking” on two DVD’s. In the first Rabbi Cahn seeks to show how events after 9/11 followed a similar pattern to Israel’s experience before their destruction at the hands of the Assyrians. The parallels are too close to appear coincidental and Rabbi Cahn presents strong arguments that these events are warnings from God.

The information provided is interesting to anyone who is concerned about the future of this country and brings together in one place a cross-section of information that applies to the events which occurred. The conclusion is we are following a similar path nationally and are being given a warning that the path we are following is the wrong one.

If a national repentance does not come wherein we return to our dependency on the grace of God, judgment will surely follow and increase in intensity.

The second DVD, “The Second Shaking” discusses the second warning from God as being the financial problems that have emerged and focuses on the events of September, 2008 including the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and the stock market crash of 2008.

The second DVD attempts to introduce a note of hope when Rabbi Cahn urges Christians to remember God’s promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14. There may be a problem there because many believe that promise was only to Israel, not to the church. God gave Israel a land but He didn’t give the church a land, He gave the church a heavenly city, The New Jerusalem.

There is no real doubt that the United States is on an unsustainable path; if we continue on this path we are heading down a path toward our destruction as a nation. As students of prophecy have observed, the United States is conspicuously absent from Bible prophecy concerning the end times.

It may well be we are observing the reasons for this as they play out in real life before us. It appears doubtful to me that the USA will be restored in the time left as signs all over the world point to the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Transgender Bathroom Insanity

If it feels like we are living in a crazy, mind-numbing, alternate universe these days, you might be right…if we were to believe that 0bammy can get his way on the transgender bathroom insanity that he and Loretta Lynch are trying to push upon all public schools!

Notice that “the letter does not impose any new legal requirements” because the president can’t impose legal requirements directly onto schools like a dictator or a king, but that didn’t stop ABC7 from Tweeting “Pres. Obama to order public schools to allow transgender students to choose own bathrooms.”

“President Obama, in the dark of the night – without consulting Congress, without consulting educators, without consulting parents – decides to issue an executive order, like this superintendent, forcing transgender policies on schools and on parents who clearly don’t want it,” Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told NBC 5.

Throw aside the bathroom issue for a second wholesale. How can Obama really order schools to do anything? This kind of thing violates the separation of powers in just the way you know Obama loves to do. And inevitably this will get tied to the funding at these schools, which is really all most schools actually care about these days anyway.

These are nothing more than scare tactics…to get other states NOT to sue the crazies in the federal government like North Carolina has done.

What’s more, the promotion of such stupid issues is a usual tactic done by despots who want to control everything and everyone.

Even a common sense minded homosexual man knows how insane it is to push this aberrant policy upon Americans:

Meanwhile, the DOJ has the time and inclination to sue North Carolina for being sooo evil as to force the potential 0.37 percent of transgender North Carolinians to use the bathroom designated for their biological sex, but the department just can’t seem to get around to indicting Hillary for, well, any of the laws she’s broken, of which there are many and that affects everyone (especially if she becomes president).

And that’s the country we live in.

This whole thing reeks of obedience training. Social engineering and bullying via politically correctness to get the 99.63 percent of everyone else to bow down, no matter how uncomfortable it might make them, to the will of the 0.37 percent…

I’m gay. I know a man when I see one. A woman who cuts off her breasts and grows a throat beard is not a man, she is a woman with a psychological disorder, known as gender dysphoria. That is the only reason insurance will cover the surgery–as treatment for a mental problem.

People with the disorder known as gender dysphoria deserve love and compassion, but that does NOT mean that the rest of us will be bullied into showering with hairy women, or men with breast implants.

Sex is biological and cannot be switched. Neither can gender. Gender ROLES or gender NORMS may be a social construct, but gender itself is BIOLOGICAL and IMMUTABLE.

WARNING: 47 Million Pounds of Frozen Meat and Tons of Frozen Fruit and Veggies Just Got Recalled for Listeria Contamination

Consider this a “public service message” obtained from The Daily Sheeple.com warning of a massive food recall due to listeria contamination!  Perhaps we all should print out this huge list in order to not pick up any item on it the next time you visit the grocery store!

A whole lot of frozen food, approximately 358 consumer products sold under 42 separate brands to include both organic and conventional, just got recalled due to potential listeria contamination.

Listeria can cause listeriosis, which is particularly dangerous and possibly even fatal for pregnant women (in whom it can cause miscarriages), babies, elderly people, and others with compromised immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

So far, eight people from California, Washington, and Maryland have been sickened by this batch of tainted food. The products are being sold in all 50 states and Canada.

The companies in question, CRF Frozen Foods and Ajinomoto Windsor Inc., have locations all over the country. The products, according to the recall, have the best by or sell by dates between April 26, 2016 and April 26, 2018.

Liberty

Ever since posting Brad Thor’s commentary in the previous post, I have gone back to read it more than three times.

Prior to reading his essay, I couldn’t really decide what it is about Trump that bothers me most. Now I know what it is. It is the fact that despite all of Trump’s resounding rhetoric, the subject of liberty is non-existent within his campaign.

Everything that Thor wrote hit a nerve with me. It condensed into one, all of the reasons why alarm bells have been going off in my mind as I have listened and watched Trump’s answers in the debates and speeches on the stump. The adoring crowds want to ignore all of the faults of Trump. Granted, there is no perfect person living on this planet. But the specific concern that I have about him is precisely what Brad Thor wrote in his essay.

Thor wrote:

As an American, my greatest allegiance is to liberty. As long as there is liberty, no task is insurmountable, no challenge too overwhelming. As long as there is liberty, anything is possible.

The true north of my compass has been, and always will be, liberty. I owe it to those who have come before me and those who will come after. I will act to safeguard liberty no matter what personal price I may be forced to bear.

Liberty is my litmus test. I weigh all actions of my government and those who seek office, against it. The ledger of freedom is incorruptible; its pages open for anyone to examine, and most importantly – to learn from.

The current BADministration has been all about granting liberty to some, but stifling it for others. From the BADministration’s pitiful approval of the “black lives matter” movement, to the unconscionable condemnation towards those who believe in upholding traditional marriage and want sane bathroom policies; all the way up to the false pretense of “Islamo-phobia” vs. the real danger of radical Islamic terrorism (threatening us here in America as well as all around the world) the concept of LIBERTY has been sorely and gravely missing.

Thor writes:

And so I come to my explanation. When I apply my litmus test of liberty to Donald Trump, he fails – completely.

In fact, he has not only failed to ever stand for liberty, he has repeatedly worked to undermine it. From supporting an assault weapons ban, the seizure of private property via eminent domain, the restructuring of libel laws, and socialized medicine (just to name a few) – throughout his entire adult life, Donald Trump has repeatedly championed the power of the state.

Regardless of what he says now, Donald Trump has a history. That history is the clearest indication of how he would govern as president. No matter how badly Americans want to “blow up” Washington, they absolutely must consider who, and what, arises from the embers of that destruction.

I am pointing out the parts that helped me to determine what is the greatest concern regarding a Trump presidency.

Thor writes:

Herein lies my greatest concern. What will become of liberty under a Trump administration? Will it grow? Will it recede? Will it vanish altogether?

Our Founders realized that the normal course of history is despotism – the control of the many by the few. That is why the Founding documents sought to constrain government. They also counted on Americans to choose wisely those whom we sought to install in office. Too often we have failed in selecting the best among us.

Donald Trump is not the best among us, nor is Hillary Clinton. They are both incredibly flawed human beings whom we should be equally ashamed of.

Neither would advance the cause of freedom. Both would take us – not to that shining city on a hill of which President Reagan spoke – but into the murky valley below. Never have I seen America faced with having two such poor choices for president.

With the lessons of history as my guide, I see in Donald Trump the character flaws that are the hallmarks of despotism. In Hillary Clinton, I also see multiple character flaws, but I see them as belonging not to a potential despot, but rather to a conniving, self-serving, progressive politician who believes in lining her own pockets and enlarging/increasing the state and its power.

The two are reprehensible – but completely different. One threatens to further enlarge the state, the other, potentially (a la Napoleon), to become it.

In the following excerpt, Thor mentions the fact that strength, compassion and humility are all necessary in any leader and the absence of them has done much damage to our nation over the last seven years.

Thor writes:

Strength, compassion, and humility are necessary in any leader – but especially so in the person who would occupy the highest and most powerful office in the world. Just look at what the absence of those qualities has done over the last seven years.

My greatest concern about Donald Trump, though, isn’t a trait he lacks, but a dangerous one he possesses – in spades. Authoritarianism.

Confident people do not bully and demean others. That is the realm of the weak and insecure. Confident people also do not threaten others, especially not their fellow citizens.

He goes on to cite that authoritarianism is as dangerous a trait as the current BADministration’s unholy alliance to Marxism/secular humanism/Islamo-fascism mindset that has been wreaking havoc upon us over the past seven years.

Thor writes:

In other words, Donald Trump has clearly told all of us that he will use the power of the presidency to force people to bend to his will. This is not liberty.

In fact, Donald Trump has never even spoken about liberty. Neither has he spoken about the Constitution and the Founding documents. This is an absolute first in the history of the United States.

Instead, Donald Trump talks about hiring the “best people” and making the “best deals.” This, though, isn’t what made America great, and it certainly isn’t what will return America to its prominence.

The blueprint for America’s success is the ideas of the Framers – limited, Constitutional governance – an area in which Donald Trump is criminally ignorant.

Thor goes on to say that neither Trump or HilLIARy are fit for the job of the presidency. Like me, he is not afraid to say that they are both terrible for our future. His preference is to write-in or vote third-party. Of course, that is up to each and every individual who enters the voting booth come this November.

He summarizes the awful choice between Trump or HilLIARy:

But between a big government progressive and a potential despot – every American must ask themselves where liberty has the greatest chance to survive over the next four years.

As a Constitutional conservative, I take solace in, and guidance from the words of Alexander Hamilton, who in the election of 1800 said, “If we must have an enemy at the head of government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible.”

I would add the concern about the next Supreme Court nominees!  There is nothing about Trump that makes me confident that he would select a Constitutional Conservative as a nominee to the Supreme Court.

I will conclude with Thor’s words:

None of us knows the future. But I ask that all of us look to the past. Only by doing so can we safeguard liberty and chart the most well-reasoned course forward.
