Apathy for The Word of God

Caution! You are about to enter a no spin post on religious beliefs that might be deemed offensive to some. However, that is NOT my intention with this post! As always, my intent is to share God’s Word, the Bible, Jesus Christ – His Son, and various ways in which  the gospel message is being shared these days in order to bring people towards an understanding of  the message of salvation.

Obviously, when discussing differences between religious beliefs, political correctness cannot stand up against the required scrutiny shared in such discussions. Political correctness cannot rule the day here at Talk Wisdom! As a reminder, here is Talk Wisdom’s goal:

Talk Wisdom’s goal is to defend the tenets and values of Biblical Christian faith. We defend our Constitutional Republic and Charters of Freedom, especially when speaking out against destructive social and political issues. As followers of our Savior and Lord, we should boldly stand up for Jesus Christ in our present circumstances. He is our Savior, Lord, and King, and His love needs to be shed abroad in our hearts and in our world – now.

Therefore, it is my hope that readers who may disagree with what I write at least respect my Constitutional right of free speech, freedom of association, and religious freedom to share what I am about to discuss.

Thanks!

~ Christine

I have been reading Dr. David Jeremiah’s Study Bible (NKJV), which was published in late 2013.  I am so pleased with the 40 years of knowledge and study notes that Dr. Jeremiah has in this wonderful study Bible!

I recently read about some alarming statistics published in the BIOLA University magazine.   Not sure if it can be trusted, though, because the leader of the study has also written a progressive-type book criticizing Christians on social issues.   Anyway, according to a research firm by BIOLA alumnus David Kinnaman (’96)  and commissioned by the American Bible Society, close to 40% of Millennials NEVER read the Bible. Among Boomers (like me), the “never read the Bible” readership is around 26% – which concurs with the percentage of U.S. adults, overall,  who never read the Bible. Elders can be proud of the fact that close to 25% read the Bible every day, and about 18% read it every week. Boomers (my age group) is listed at 18% read the Bible every day and 15% every week. The very sad news is that only a paltry 8% of Millennials read the Bible every day and 9% read it every week.

It’s a sad reality that there is such apathy for the Word of God. 😦

Unfortunately, such apathy leads to skepticism towards Scripture.  But how would such individuals know that they should be skeptical about what is written in the Bible when they haven’t even read it?  These people are missing out on the most important information that they could read, learn, and study about in the entire world!  There is a big reason why the Bible is the world’s best selling book!

Much of what I do, say, read,  and write about these days is influenced by Scripture.  Sometimes, I need to clarify certain beliefs that others may disagree with, and that can be a tough issue to deal with.  People can dismiss what Scripture says about any moral, social, political, spiritual and intellectual issue simply because they choose not to believe what the Bible says about such topics.

When I recently heard about a blog post written by a teenager years ago, this person included a line that read, “I don’t know why I’m here, but….”  Sadly, this person is of another religion and it would not have been appropriate for me to say, “I know why…may I share it with you?”

A few times, I have been asked, “why do you believe what you believe?”   It can be difficult to sum  up my reasons in just a few words.  Often, the conversation goes off into various directions where it can be difficult to continue answering such a question accurately.  But, at least, it can serve as a starting point towards an ongoing conversation in the future.

I like to seek out Pastors, preachers, writers and even Rabbis who are more knowledgeable about Scripture than I am when it comes to studying the Word of God.

Several months ago, in fact, I started DVR-ing a television show on the  DayStar network called Discovering the Jewish Jesus. You can read about Rabbi K.A. Schneider, who is a Messianic, Jewish believer in Jesus and end-times messenger of the LORD,  who dedicates to life to delivering the Word of the LORD with true passion of the Holy Spirit.

Excerpt from that link:

Through understanding the Old Testament and its prophetic nature, with Yeshua as its fulfillment, your faith is strengthened, increased relationship and intimacy with the LORD is discovered, and an end-times vision of life is crystallized. This is an end-times ministry, strengthening the church and calling her to be a readied bride for the return of the Bridegroom, Yeshua Ha-Mashiach (Jesus The Messiah).

Our Mission:
to prepare the Church for Jesus’ return by fostering in her a deeper love for Yeshua
and empowering her to be a greater witness to both Jews and Gentiles.

I have learned SO MUCH from his television show on DayStar! The three-part series on how Jews celebrate Passover, and how Jesus actually fulfilled the Passover was amazing!

Interestingly enough, when I put the words, “The Jewish Jesus – Rabbi Schneider” into the StartPage search engine, the results included the following warning:

Information Your search included the special search operator NOT. Click here to show results without using this special operator.

And, at the very top, under the heading of “Ads related to The Jewish Jesus – Rabbi Schneider” was a link (in the middle of 3 ad links) to Jews for Judaism. The site is dedicating to countering Christian missionaries (and, obviously, Messianic Rabbis like K.A. Schneider) in order to claim that Jesus could not have been the awaited Messiah of the Jewish people.

After reading their counter messages on just the front page, I could probably refute a lot of what is written there because of my own 20 years of Bible study, as well as what I have learned from Pastor David Jeremiah,  Rabbi Schneider, and many more Pastors, scholars, and Christian apologists.

Here’s one example:

They [Jews for Judaism] wrote at the site:

● The Messiah must be from the Tribe of Judah and a Descendant of King David AND King Solomon

The Messiah must be a member of the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10) and a direct descendant of King David & King Solomon (2 Samuel 7:12-14; 1 Chronicles 22:9-10). Genealogy in the Bible is only passed down from father to son (Numbers 1:1-18).

There is no evidence that Jesus really had this pedigree, and the Christian Bible actually claims that he did not have a “birth-father” from the tribe of Judah descending from King David and King Solomon (Matt. 1:18-20).

From what I have learned, Jesus’ mother, (being born of the tribe of Judah and a descendant of David) Mary fulfilled this requirement.   The fact that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit of God without spot or blemish (of sin), is crucial to His mission to  be the unblemished Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and to take those sins upon Himself and die for the sins of the world.  That is what the sacrificial lambs in the Old Testament were about.  They served as a temporary atonement for the sins of the people.  However, Jesus’ atonement was once for all and final.

Now, I haven’t researched that site past the first page, but I wonder if knowing that Jesus is BOTH the Offspring of David and the Root of David via the book of Revelation would help them realize that Jesus is exactly who He says He is?

Rev 22:16

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

Plus, in the end times, Jesus is the only one who is worthy to open the seven seals of the scroll of judgments:

Rev 5:5

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose [fn] its seven seals.”

The Old Testament talks about the coming Messiah in Isaiah:

Isa 53:2

For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

In fact, Isaiah 53:1-12 contains the prophecy of the suffering Servant – Jesus Christ!

The Jeremiah Study Bible: Picture This:

The Suffering Servant or “the Man of sorrows” prophecies of Jesus speak of the necessity for the Servant to suffer for the sins of the people. Isaiah prophetically spoke of the shameful trial of Jesus before Pilate, of His silence before His accusers, of His shameful treatment by the rulers, and of his slaughter as a lamb on the cross for all of us (Matt. 27). The author’s primary concern is not the suffering, however, but Jesus’ amazing triumph over suffering.

The Suffering Servant was despised and rejected , so He can relate to people on a very personal level when they are dealing with pain and grief.

Isaiah uses physical terms – “by His stripes we are healed” – to describe what Jesus did when he took human sin on Himself and died in our place (2 Cor. 5:21). Scholars call this the “substitutionary atonement” of Christ. Verse 5 also describes what happens spiritually when sinner experience salvation. Sins are forgiven. Atonement is applied. The whole person is spiritually healed. But there is a physical dimension to Christ’s atonement as well. Physical healing will come in the future, when we receive our resurrection bodies (1 Cor. 15).

When Isaiah says the Servant will “justify man” (lit. “make many righteous”), this means, at the very least, declaring them innocent legally (what theologians call justification), as a result of Him transferring their sins to Himself and tasking on their punishment. But the statement may also include the impartation of actual righteousness (what theologians call sanctification). Through His sacrifice, the Servant lays the foundation for the New Covenant, through which the Lord transforms the inner character of His people through the gift of His Spirit (Jer. 31:31-34; Ezek. 35:24-27). 1

Is that awesome or what???

There are many more examples that I could share of where the Old Testament prophets shared prophecy that was fulfilled by Jesus Christ! There are over 300 prophecies that are meant to be fulfilled by the Messiah. And, in one case the writer over at Jews for Judiasm had it right! Jesus has NOT fulfilled all of the prophecies yet. The reason being is  that all the rest are to be fulfilled at His Second Coming!

One last thing.  In Pastor David Jeremiah’s Sunday sermon this week called

God’s Ultimate New World Order [click on link to view] he made a very important point regarding Jesus’ prayer. When we read the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus said:

Our Father in heaven. Hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…

Question: Has God’s will ever been completely done on earth, as it is in heaven? Answer: No. That is exactly why the Millennium, where Jesus serves as ruler over all of the nations at His second coming will happen. It will fulfill God’s promises to both Jewish and Gentile believers – and if you watch that segment you will learn much more!

Let’s finish The Lords Prayer from Scripture:

Mat 6:9

“In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.

Mat 6:10

Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

Mat 6:11

Give us this day our daily bread.

Mat 6:12

And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.

Mat 6:13

And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. [fn]

My advice?  Open the Bible and read it!

Hat tips to all links.

You’ve done a good job with this one Christine. You wake me up to the fact that I really need to get more into my reading of the scriptures. I’ve read and studied the Bible for more than 40 years and we’ll play Bible Trivia sometimes and I’ll realize how even after all these years I still don’t know what I should.
Oh, don’t be worried about being offensive to some, leave that to me, I’m good at it! 🙂
Rina is funny sometimes. I have the tendency to use unsavory language at times especially when I get angry. Once fairly recently I was getting into a confrontation with another Texan who apparently had a little road rage (I’m not much better). After exchanging some “pleasantries” and finally driving off Rina admonished me … “Steve, you really should learn to calm down. You don’t have to cuss. You could have just said, ‘Hey you jerk, you should just get lost!” I looked at her and couldn’t help but laugh out loud!

Thank you Steve! I can always count on you to say nice things about my posts.

It’s a proven fact that none of us – no matter how many years of Bible study we have done – have ever “arrived” to know all that it contains. I think God’s Word is totally unique in such a fact! We always have more to learn, so I agree with you on that!

Being labeled as “offensive” seems to be the modus-operandi by progressives, Democrats, and obots. Such lies are being pushed upon Christians and conservatives – more so these days than any other in American history. I think it has a lot to do with the awful mood, ugly tone, terrible abuses, flagrant lies, and never-ending criminality of Zero, his fraudulent government, and those obots who mindlessly follow. They would do anything (and everything) in order to refuse to see the truth – no matter what. It all reeks of an awful stench that climbs so high out of Washington D.C. that it’s chilling, creepy and disgusting.

You, my friend, have taken it upon yourself to alert people (via your great blog) of all of muck, mire, and sinking sand being pushed upon us and swirling all around us. I’m sure that it grates on your nerves and hurts your mind, heart, and soul (like it does mine!) to witness how far down the cesspool of filth these evil thugs and criminals are taking our beloved nation.

This is why I stay even closer to Jesus and His promises. This is why I read the Bible more, and glean the knowledge, truth, and wisdom that it contains so that what Jesus told us would happen [e.g. In this world you will have trouble (tribulation)] can be swept away into a daily dustbin of history. We can “take heart – because He has overcome the world!”

We are “not of this world” as Jesus proclaimed of Himself in Scripture. As his followers, we are HIS – and of His kingdom already – even before that great Rapture event happens to fulfill Christ’s promise that He has “gone to prepare a place for us – so that where He is, there we may be also.”

Yes! We are given the tasks by God to heed His Word, watch for Christ’s return, and work during this time “because the days are evil.” He has given us so much information to help us through it all.

Understanding Christ’s promises are life sustaining for us – while we still exist here on this fallen earth. It is a joy that can NEVER be taken away from us! So, no matter what transpires here on this earth, we can rest under His everlasting arms in the comfort and peace of His wonderful GRACE. What could possibly be better than that?

Heh heh…Rina sounds like such a sweetheart – and she’s also a smart lady. I don’t like bad language either. When every other word out of an actor’s mouth is the “f” word, I don’t want listen to, or even waste my time watching such a movie! What’s worse though, is taking the name of the Lord God in vain. Hollyweird is so pathetically satanic that they do curse like that on a regular basis. Too much garbage on TV., in the movies, and even on social networking sites. So much of it is all a waste of time in my book.

It is always my hope and prayer that what I write about here will speak to people who are genuinely searching for answers and the truth. I see what people type into search engines that bring them here to read via my stats. Even my former blog still has about 60 – 100 visitors per day. I can check Hi-stats to see how they ended up there, too.

I have not always been gracious to all people at my blogs, and I don’t make excuses for that. Sometimes the written words do not come out as we would like them to be comprehended. People today don’t like to hear terms like “sin,” and the need for repentance. And, sometimes we need to call it as we see it – when evil abounds and lies are spewed while the truth is being suppressed. That is just one reason why I put the “caution” statement at the top of this post. In this day of wrong is right (evil is being called good) and right is wrong (good is being called “evil”); confusion abounds like never before! I certainly don’t have the answers – but God does! And that is why I recommend HIS ETERNAL, unchanging WORD in this life; and also as we patiently look ahead towards being in His eternal presence.

Dear Christine, you know, and I have a major problem with this, that we sometimes have a “revelation”, and awesome thought, or something that we think would help others comes to mind. Then when we go to write them … the depth gets lost in the words.

Since Rini and I have been married I’ve been “toned” down a lot and I don’t use bad language in front of her … well, rarely.
I’ll just say I was quite an unsavory character before she came along. It’s amazing how opposite we are in nearly every way, but she thinks I’m a good guy, so that’s good enough for me.

Yes Steve – I know that you often feel the same way that I do about all the corruption that many seem to be “getting away with” in our nation and in this world. And, when we write, we can’t always be “politically correct” when dealing with the truth. So be it! The Lord tells us in the parable of the sower that the seeds planted end up on various types of “ground” – as a way to tell us that not all will come to repentance.

    But we keep trying!

I do remember you telling me that Rini likes to listen to Dr. David Jeremiah! I have several of his books and just ordered about 4 more! He is the genuine article – not a charlatan like some of the “preachers” out there. [Benny HInn comes to mind.]

We know that the book of Jude warns us about those who “crept in -unawares” into the churches [and sometimes on TV] – and they are guilty of trading the truth of God for a lie. We always need to be on guard for those who would “turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny Christ.” This is why the Bible is CRUCIAL to recognize the truth from error. I know that you already know all of this, but I write about it for the sake of those who may come across this thread and need to be informed.

    Jude 1:4

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God [fn] and our Lord Jesus Christ.

As your beloved wife, Rina, of course, sees the good in you Steve. So do I – in a long distance way via your blog.

I once read that we do not only love the people we do “because” of certain reasons. We also love them “although” they [we all] have our faults. And, our spouses know the most about such faults! But they love us anyway! I think that this kind of attitude reflects God’s agape love for us. “While we were yet sinners – Christ died for us.”

Calling people out for the bad that they do can be exhausting! But someone has to do it. Tag! You’re it! LOL

But seriously, God has placed upon your heart to be a sort of “clarion call” against the evil and corruption all around us. It’s OK! You are obviously called to blog at Cry and Howl, and I think that you are doing a great service for many who have the privilege of reading your blog!

”There is a big reason why the Bible is the world’s best selling book!”

Yes…it has to do with it being (usually) copyright-free, inexpensive to print (due to all those tithes given in all those churches), and mostly because it is often given away. Small, cheap softcover copies are given to travellers, soldiers, and survivors of disasters; the fancy hardbound ones are usually bought by the believers themselves, to be placed prominently on a shelf or carried proudly in the believer’s hand.
To give a book away is legally the same thing as a ‘sale’. Interestingly, the same rule also applies to illegal drugs. Money does not have to change hands in order for it to be a ‘sale’.

Only you know why you believe what you believe, but my impression is that you believe because you were taught to believe. You weren’t thoroughly taught, because if you had been you’d still be doing the Mass and the transubstantiation and the indulgences, all that. Instead, you switched it out for another Christianity more agreeable to you.

oh come on Gm … give the Bible some credit.
I think what would be more “agreeable” for all of us would be to be either such an one as yourself or to believe in eternal security.
It’s not easy being a Christian, though here in the U.S. contending with a person like you (I feel bad for Christine sometimes) is safer than living in, say, Nigeria, Iraq or Syria.
Hmmm … now why would people be willing to have their heads sawed off for something they could easily recant and convert to Islam, and live?
Maybe there is something more to this “Christianity” than meets the eye … ?

It’s not supposed to be easy being a Christian, is it?
To suffer for one’s faith is said to be noble and righteous, but Christians in this country don’t live in fear as Nigeria or Iraq, so they have no business moaning about how “persecuted” they are.

”Hmmm … now why would people be willing to have their heads sawed off for something they could easily recant and convert to Islam, and live?
Maybe there is something more to this “Christianity” than meets the eye … ?”

Could be, could be…but try telling that to a Jew in medieval Europe. Every now and then they got rounded up and were forced to renounce their faith or die. If the latter occurred, their children were usually placed into Christian homes and raised to praise God, not Yahweh.

Today’s Islamic fanatics are doing very little that those Christian fanatics hadn’t done centuries before.
So, what is this ‘something more’, steve? That Christians did it first?

    • christinewjc Says:

GM, many Christians are paying close attention to all of the persecution going on against Christians in other countries. Such countries do not hold to what made America different – being a Constitutional Republic.

Yes, we have our own problems here, but we are fortunate enough to not have a dictator (although Zero’s puppeteer has tried to make him one) here. We are also fortunate that we don’t have Islamic fanatics attempting to blow themselves up every day here – and Sharia law isn’t taking over (yet!). Pam Geller’s Atlas Shrugs blog [also, her Twitter account] shares what the media of mass deception won’t – all of the evil and carnage that Islamists cause around the world in homage to their false god “allah.”

At the founding of our nation, Benjamin Franklin once famously said, “We have given you [us] a Republic – if you can keep it” when he was asked by a woman “what kind of government have you created for us?” Franklin knew that if those who would desire tyranny over the people got in, our Republic could be taken away. It has been, bit by bit, over several decades. Mostly because the elitists in Washington D.C. want power OVER the people – instead of being servants FOR the people. The useful idiots that aren’t paying attention and don’t know history voted communists and progressives into office – who are all intent on destroying America. Such people haven’t learned from the horror of previous wars in history. Therefore, they vote in communists and progressives – believing their propaganda of “hope” and change.” They are so clueless – they don’t even know that they are being used.

It behooves us, then, to make every effort to try and stop this train of deception going on which is intent on driving the U.S.A. down into a “new world order’; similar to what the Nazi’s wanted. it took a lot of blood and treasure to defeat them, as well as Imperialistic Japan.

Today, we are dealing with Communists and Islamists in our own government! Recall Zero’s promise when he said, “we are just 3 days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” Most people don’t want to “fundamentally change” a nation that they truly love. After 5 1/2 years, the “change” that the puppet Zero and his nefarious handlers have wreaked upon America has been absolutely disastrous! The foreign policy is terrible! We look weak because Zero is weak and not a leader. America is laughed at because of it.

The Soros/Jarrett/Zero fraudulent Agenda 21 enterprise is ruining our beloved nation. However, you would NEVER admit it because you choose to support Zero and his ilk no matter how much damage is being inflicted upon We The People.

At least the Supreme Court has finally made some decisions against the illegal power grabbing that’s going on.

Your response to Steve regarding “something more” to Christianity is just typical GM gibberish. I wrote that you would not get the point and I was correct.

The only gibberish here has been from you.
For the past six years you have parroted all the lies and slander about the current president, and turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the activities of his predecessor. Whatever Obama has or hasn’t done, he hasn’t lied us into war, he hasn’t ignored the financial crisis that began before he took office, and he hasn’t got a secret Muslim decoder ring giving him instructions on how to establish sharia law in this country.
Oh, and he wasn’t born in Kenya either.

Of course you would deny the evil committed by Christians in the past (don’t make me repeat the treatment of Jews again). Some of these continue to the present day. But documents of those actually exist, unlike your paranoid fantasies.

”Most people don’t want to “fundamentally change” a nation that they truly love. We look weak because Zero is weak and not a leader. America is laughed at because of it.”

Slavery was a ‘fundamental’ of our Republic since long before it was founded. Would you have us go back to it? A hundred years ago, you wouldn’t have had the right to vote. Would you want to go back to that?
Often, fundamental change is good. Sometimes, it’s necessary. I know you believe that; if you didn’t you’d still be a Catholic.

So you say that America looks weak. That explains why so many conservatives have been cheering Vladimir Putin these past few months—he’s just the kind of man they admire. Seeing how I spent much of my life defending against people like him, this confuses me.
You say America looks weak. Compared to who? If you want to live in a ‘strong’ nation, with a strong leader, I suggest North Korea. Nobody picks a fight with them…but no one wants anything to do with them, either.

Agenda 21 is less important to me than Operation Chaos. I do not know if the former really exists, but I know for sure the latter one did!

Well, it’s been a relaxing break. Now…back to work.

You cite a radio talk show host and a biased article from Wikipedia, rather than acknowledging the FACT that the Supreme Court UNANIMOUSLY agreed that Zero overstepped the authority of the position he is (supposed) to hold. That decision included the two LIBERAL PROGRESSIVE justices that Zero chose to replace retiring ones.

This one fact alone shows your rabid obot bias, and your leanings of agreement towards anything that Zero would or could do. Not even acknowledging this wrong shows me that you will point out the wrongs of others (many, from years decades, or centuries ago) without addressing the here and now offensives and illegality going on in the Zero BADministration. Is the criminal Eric Holder also a hero of yours? Why? Just because he’s black too?

You have driven this conversation away from the original post. But before I leave this thread, I have a few things to say.

Heck, even President George W. Bush is more regarded as more favorable than Zero these days – and Bush had a progressive media who hated him; often spewing propaganda against him for 8 years. Zero has the media of mass deception (so far…but how much longer?) ALWAYS on his side.

However, most of We The People are not fooled by them anymore. The informed ones go to alternative media to learn the truth.

Perhaps you should go to some other blog where more useful idiots are involved with supporting the resident in the White House (minus the 67% who think he’s the worst “leader” in American history) and his evil billionaire puppeteer. They will most likely agree with you; turning a blind eye away from the swirling cesspool of chaos – foolishly ignorant of the truth. Because they have blinders on, they blame everything and everyone besides the true culprits involved in the ongoing destruction of America.

Maybe BioLA should do a study on why that is so. (“Sin” is not an explanation.)
Back in 1983, President Reagan declared that year to be the “Year of the Bible”, violating church-state separation to the cheers of millions. All the Americans born that year are 31 years old now: are they more or less righteous than those who came before, and how would you know? You might want to ask Dr. Jeremiah about that.

Why should he speed things up just for you?

Actually, I did try to get the thread back on track, two days ago. I mentioned the “Year of the Bible” decree, and that maybe someone should investigate why, thirty years later, the number of young god-wailers is falling off. Maybe you didn’t read that post, in your frenzy, so I’ll point you to it: it’s right above this one.
We can go back to that now if you want. I’m ready either way.
